Rare portable table of solid walnut - with increasing mobility in the nineteenth century, the need for portable furniture grew and furniture that could be easily transported was often used for military campaigns and aboard ships. Entrepreneurs and inventors worked to fill the need and patented all sorts of ingenious designs. This attractive example dates from about 1875 and is American. It is in excellent original condition.
