"BURGOYNE SURROUNDED"- British General John Burgoyne tried to take the city of Albany, New York, but on being surrounded by the Americans he surrendered at Saratoga on Oct. 17, 1777. This pattern is also known as "Burgoyne's Surrender" and dates from the early 19th Century. About 1850 the name was changed to "Wheel of Fortune". The early settlers took the pattern to the West where it came to be known as "The Road to California". This fine example has diamond quilting, hand stitched, eight stitches per inch, signed "Debora Jean Grover, Her Quilt", This is a Colonial Revival quilt, circa 1920 and may be from New York where there was a tradition of incorporating names and dates in large letters on quilts, professionally washed, two sides of binding replaced (machine stitched), slight staining (see photo #4), in overall very good condition, slight wear to original binding. 62"x78". We accept time payments and quantity discounts, ** WE GUARANTEE THE AUTHENTICITY OF OUR MERCHANDISE AS REPRESENTED.
