Hessian Soldiers including VERY RARE set of matching fire tools, cast iron with what appears to be original paint decoration in very good condition. The best-known pattern of early 19th century cast andirons is that of Hessian Soldiers. It is believed that they were inspired by the dislike of the mercenary troops brought here by the British in the American Revolution. Hence, they were being burned in effigy. American, circa 1900. Andirons measure 19-1/2" high, 17-1/2" deep, 10-1/2" wide. Tools measure 29" high, Base 8-1/2"x6-1/2".
