A scarce set of cast iron Owl form andirons with a set of matching fire tools with owl form handles, circa 1900. The andirons have glass eyes that allow the fire light to shine through. The tool set is comprised of a stand, shovel, brush and poker. There are no breaks, apparent repairs or missing parts. Andiron Dimensions: 15" H. X 16 1/2" in depth, X 9 1/2" wide at the base. An original pair of cast iron Owl Form andirons marked on the back "P S & W Pat. 1886", P. S. & W. stands for Peck, Stowe and Wilcox, a 19th and early 20th Century Connecticut foundry. This foundry was among those making the best castings of this type. The glass eyes are translucent allowing the light from the fire to make the eyes glow.
